Ok – now I’m going to attempt to read the poem. Make a note of the parts which confuse and surprise you, and then practice by yourself! Some of the words used in the poem are very rare, but most are commonly used in everyday situations. So, listen to my pronunciation and compare it to the written poem. It is full of irregular spellings, that you will not recognise unless you read them. By looking at the words and listening to me at the same time, you will understand why the poem is so difficult. ![]() You will be able to find the full poem on my blog, which as always will be linked in the description. To make the most of this episode, I really recommend you to read the poem while listening to me read it out loud. It includes around 800 examples of irregular spelling and pronunciation – it is not easy to read! The Chaos was written to highlight the irregularity of the English language. It is called The Chaos, and it was written by a Dutch writer called Gerard Nolst Trenité. Not just any poem – one of the most difficult to pronounce poems in the English language. Today’s episode is a little different to normal. (If you can’t see the podcast player CLICK HERE to listen!!)
